Sacha Coles Director at ASPECT Studios spoke in depth about the shared space. Functional public realms are so much more than a communal area, they’re a platform for observation, respite and engagement. As we move further into an era of metropolitanisation and our city’s become more and more dense it’s important that the pockets between buildings are as planned and considered as the buildings themselves.
Aspect is a design firm specialising in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design and Digital Media. They approach the design of the public realm with an optimistic goal of uplifting the public’s everyday experience and creating places where people want to be.
In his talk Sacha presents the thinking and collaborative process behind some of ASPECT’s key Sydney projects, both realised and on the drawing board. His talk discusses many Sydney shaping spaces including Darling Quarter, The Goods Line, Angel Place, Chinatown, The Meeting Place and Jacaranda Square. Outlining the importance of living architecture, social infrastructure, new nature and placemaking in embedding moments of joy in to urban environments.
