As part of our recent rebrand for Qantas Super, we’ve created an engaging VR experience designed to help members realise the importance of actively engaging with their super.
“Superannuation remains such a hard topic to engage our members in, even though it’s one of the most important decisions they need to think about,” says Stuart Langeveldt, Head of Member Experience, Qantas Super.
“Our purpose is to help our members be confident in their financial future so they can enjoy their retirement, so we wanted to look at engagement in a whole new way,” he continues.
Using VR To Captivate
Qantas Super approached NEST:VR to partner with them on this exciting new project.
The aim was create a powerful platform to captivate members and provide a memorable experience that would help change their behaviour in response to the role superannuation plays in their lives.
The teams came together to talk through ideas and concepts and from those discussions came Retire Right, a VR game show set in the future.
Making It Influential
Using VR as a platform, the Qantas Super member is placed at the centre of the Retire Right show, making financial decisions for a fictional home viewer. The intention is to show how topping up your superannuation can result in better lifestyle options down the track.
“In behavioural economics terms, what we try to do is influence our members’ status quo bias by showing them that making a small difference now, can make a big difference later,” says Langeveldt.
NEST:VR approached Ben Jenkins, TV presenter and writer, to write the script for the game show, and Cam Knight, TV presenter and comedian, to play the role of game show host.
A FUTURE-PROOF PROCESS
It was critical to build a prototype early in the creative process to test the idea. This also allowed Cam and Ben to become immersed in the VR environment and game show itself, and into the hot seat of the Qantas Super member. They were then able to use the experience to achieve a high degree of empathy for the end user, while keeping the experience fun and light hearted.
